Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work. Though most of the conflict in the play stems from the troubles of romance, and though the play involves a number of romantic elements, it is not truly a love story; it distances the audience from the emotions of the characters in order to poke fun at the torments and afflictions that those in love suffer.

Spelling and Vocabulary will largely come from literary terminology, but will also include the study of root words and affixes in preparation for college entrance examinations.
Additionally, SAT prep will be included as part of this course. Writing assignments will include Responses to Literature journal entries for each work read, a literary and narrative essay of words in length, a research paper of pages, and a final literary analysis paper of pages.
Students will have unit tests at the end of each unit. The final exam will not be cumulative.
Refer to this often as you work through the course. You will have vocabulary quizzes throughout the course and vocabulary words will appear on your unit tests.
